Founder Audrey L. Lewis established E Joy Community Resource Center in 2009, in memory of her mother-in-law the late Edwinor J. Gandy, a missionary and advocate for those in need.
E Joy Community Resource Center opened its doors for the first food distribution in Roslyn Heights in November 2009, in 2014 a second site was opened on the campus of LaGuardia Community college, LIC where hundreds of students receive food assistance throughout the school year.
E Joy Community Resource Center, Inc. (CRC) has been servicing the needs of Long Island and New York residents for over 10 years, assisting those who need “a hand up, and not a hand down” by providing basic needs with no conditions. Our goal is to provide healthy and nutritious food to people including fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy. Our food pantry distributes over 2000 pounds of food per month. During the winter months, we distribute coats and Thanksgiving turkey baskets and have holiday parties for children. In addition to feeding the hungry, E Joy CRC is in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead’s Project Independence which provides recreation for elderly adults.
